Forward Deployed Engineering is the practice, and the forward deployed engineer is the person. Providers offer it as embedded individuals, pods, or end-to-end implementation projects.
It differs from classic consulting in that the engineers write and own production code, and from pure product engineering in that the work is shaped by one customer's environment.
